| In the spring of 2005, German Frers design teamed up with Nautor’s Swan to present their proposal for the NYYC which was selected to become the new One Design yacht for the Club.
This new yacht is designed to take advantage of the latest thinking in design and construction.
She will be light and extremely fast and feature for the first time a retractable bowsprit.
For the requirements of the NYYC, it will be a racer/cruiser with the ability to win races and provide for enjoyable cruising.
Two interior layouts on choice.
Designer’s comment 01/07/06
“The first impression after a short, first sail under the midnight sun on the new Club Swan 42 is very positive.
She seemed fast and responsive, well balanced, with very good acceleration and stability. The steering is light and smooth and the rudder seemed to have plenty of control.
Down wind sails were not on board, so I have no comments on the down wind performance, however she moves without effort through the water and we all left the boat feeling she has all the potential to become a real success in terms of sailing performance looks and interior comfort.”
On October 7th, it was officially celebrated the launching of the first NYYC42 amongst 200 members and guests at the NYYC’s Harbour Court club in Newport.
Next summer the club will host the first NYYC42 Nationals, where about 20 boats are expected to race.
ACURA KEY WEST 2007
A fleet of 250 boats with more than 2000 sailors racing under sunny skies and in perfect wind conditions (10-14 knot winds and flat waters) during the Acura Key West Race (January 15th to 19th, 2007).
The Club Swan Esmeralda made a superb debut in the IRC Cat. 3, taking the first place in the final standing list, after winning 5 races and arriving second in 4 of them.
NEWPORT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - SEPTEMBER 16th, 2007
The NYYC in Newport (RI) had the pleasure to host the first exciting National Championship of the Swan 42 Class.
The project is very recent and ruled by owner-driver class requirements, limiting both the number of professional sailors and sail inventory.
The final winner amongst 18 enthusiastic competitors was Amelia sailed by Alex Jackson (NYYC) and the number of entries for next year event is bound to increase.
